LESSON 7 OF 8 · ABOUT 12 MINUTES
Print a chart and join its pages
Use row ranges to avoid duplicate stitches, and measure a full-size template before cutting.
Bring to the table
- Downloaded complete PDF
- A printer and the matching paper size
- A physical ruler
See the example
A symbol chart is enlarged for reading; its square size on paper does not set your stitch size. A cutting template labeled 1:1 is different. Print that page at Actual size / 100% and measure its ruler before using it on fabric.
Try it step by step
Choose the file and paper
Download the complete PDF for the selected fabric count and Letter or A4 paper. Check the title, version and symbol key against the project you are using.
Align chart coordinates
Read the row and column range printed on each chart tile. Match any repeated coordinates before joining the pages. Treat the overlap as a viewing aid, not another strip to stitch.
Separate chart scale from template scale
Use the enlarged symbol chart to count stitches. For any template labeled 1:1, choose Actual size or 100%, turn off Fit / Shrink and verify the printed ruler.
Check on paper
Measure the one-inch bar: it should be 25.4 mm. If it differs, correct the print settings and reprint. Check a second marked dimension too before trimming your work.
YOUR TURN
A small practice check
Print this lesson at 100%. Measure the bar on the paper and enter its length in millimeters. The screen is not a physical ruler.
Print calibration bar · 1 inch / 25.4 mm
Measure between the two end marks. This bar must be measured on paper.
Show the answer and explanation
25.4 mm
The target is 25.4 mm. This check accepts 24.9–25.9 mm as a rough ruler check; it does not certify your printer. Recheck the full template dimensions before cutting.
Check your actual work
- Every stitched square has one row/column coordinate.
- The printed key is readable in black and white.
- The template ruler and a second dimension measure correctly.
The practice check reviews a method. Use these checks on your own cloth before moving on.
If something goes wrong
The ruler measures 23 mm.
The page is too small. Disable Fit / Shrink, choose the matching paper size and print again at 100%.
I stitched a repeated overlap twice.
Locate the repeated coordinate range. Unmark the duplicate stitches and undo only the extra strip before continuing.

Printing examples follow the row coordinates and template measurements used in Stitch Pantry files. Your printer’s settings and paper measurements determine the final scale.
